P.K. Subban fined again for diving

The NHL has once again fined P.K. Subban for diving. Subban collapsed after being hooked a bit during a game against the Ottawa Senators on March 12th and the NHL felt it was worthy of a $3,000 fine.

Bill Guerin thinks the Penguins whine too much

The Pittsburgh Penguins have a reputation as being a team that loves to complain. Sidney Crosby and his teammates have been given nicknames surrounding this very idea, mocking the fact the Penguins are often seen complaining to the officials after penalty calls and offside whistles. Is there any validity to these statements or are fans of […]

Video: Curtis Lazar eats a burger that was thrown on the ice

Fans of the Ottawa Senators love goaltender Andrew Hammond – AKA The Hamburgular – and they show their appreciation by throwing burgers on the ice. Hammond is already covered in that area as he was given free McDonald’s for life, but Curtis Lazar is pretty happy with a free, disgusting snack.

Mike Green wants to play with the Capitals until he dies or retires

Mike Green is set to become an unrestricted free agent following the 2014-15 season and it’s safe to assume he’d draw plenty of interest on the open market. Is Green interested in testing out free agency? Based on his comments to the Washington media, not even a little bit. In fact, he had a somewhat morbid […]

Best and worst of the NHL: Week 25

After a week long hiatus from the best and worst column, I am back and thoroughly rejuvenated. Hockey for some reason went on without me and so now I am playing catch up. Let’s take a look at the odd, the great and the down right painful from the week that was.

GIF: Dustin Brown obliterates Corey Perry

Corey Perry is going to be feeling this one tomorrow. Looking to make a pass, Perry’s focus prevented him from seeing Dustin Brown skating his way. The result was a brutal collision. GIF: Dustin Brown lays out Corey Perry pic.twitter.com/BY1vcPsAgD — Pete Blackburn (@PeteBlackburn)

Video: Corey Crawford spaces out on the bench

Corey Crawford earned some time off against the New York Rangers and took up a spot on the bench to watch the action. What does Crawford do during the game when he’s not playing? Not much. The cameras caught him completely zoned out during the game, lost in his thoughts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EG-DelwOCeM

Shane Doan says the Coyotes have been “kind of embarrassing”

The Arizona Coyotes are one of the worst teams in the NHL. Actually, they may be the worst team in the NHL, but there are still some games left which will determine whether that honor belongs to the Coyotes, Edmonton Oilers or Buffalo Sabres. Fans are rooting against their squad in the hopes of improving their chances to […]

Hockey Fights of the Week: 3/9 – 3/15

We’re a day late with this week’s installment of Hockey Fights of the Week, but we think this collection of fights was worth the wait. We haven’t featured too many heavyweight fights of late, but there is one on this week’s list which will definitely be among the year’s best.  5. Mike Fisher (NSH) vs Ryan Kesler […]

Report: 3-on-3 OT hockey is coming to the NHL pending NHLPA approval

The NHL is looking to decide the outcomes of more games before they reach a shootout and they believe moving to 3-on-3 hockey in overtime is the way to do it. The AHL recently incorporated 3-on-3 play in overtime and they’ve seen a drastic drop in games decided by the skills competition. Reportedly, the NHL will […]

Throwing Corsi out of player evaluations

For a long time now many have referred to Corsi and Fenwick numbers in conjunction with zone starts to determine the relative value of a player. In a recent article on HockeyAnalysis.com David Johnson has illustrated that zone starts are very much a function of a player’s role. That role also greatly affects Corsi and […]

Brandon Prust checked Ben Bishop into the boards

It’s pretty common knowledge that you can’t hit an NHL goaltender. Accidental collisions happen, but it’s pretty rare to see a player check a goaltender against the boards. Remarkably, that’s exactly what Brandon Prust did to Ben Bishop when the Canadiens faced the Lightning.

GIF: Max Pacioretty confuses Steven Stamkos for a teammate, makes an awful pass

It’s going to take Max Pacioretty a long time to live this one down. After exiting his own zone, he dropped the puck back to who he thought was a teammate. Instead, it was Steven Stamkos and the Lightning forward had no trouble lighting the lamp. We joke about giving an assist to the opposing […]
