We’re a day late with this week’s installment of Hockey Fights of the Week, but we think this collection of fights was worth the wait. We haven’t featured too many heavyweight fights of late, but there is one on this week’s list which will definitely be among the year’s best.
5. Mike Fisher (NSH) vs Ryan Kesler (ANA) – Mar. 15th
Kesler’s name isn’t one you’ll find in too many of our fighting columns, but here he puts on a decent show. This fight is close to being a draw, but we give Kesler the slight edge.
4. Luke Gazdic (EDM) vs Jared Boll (CBJ) – Mar. 13th
This is a pretty nasty bout. It’s pretty difficult to determine if any of the punches actually landed, but even if one did … yikes.
3. Kyle Clifford (LA) vs Derek Dorsett (VAN) – Mar. 12th
There’s a lot of hand holding in this one and it takes a long time for things to get going, but once it does it’s pretty solid. Both men throw and land some big punches, so we’re going to call it a draw.
2. Tanner Glass (NYR) vs Nicolas Deslauriers (BUF) – Mar. 14th
Deslauriers fights extremely intelligently in this one. He keeps Glass in close and pummels him with blows with his right hand. When Glass starts to get rolling, he switches to his left. Fighting is all about keeping your opponent guessing and that’s exactly what Deslauriers pulls off.
1. Anthony Peluso (WIN) vs Ryan Reaves (STL) – Mar. 10th
We’ve routinely said that Reaves is one of the best fighters in the NHL, but Peluso deserves that same recognition. Though Reaves may be a bit more consistent in his fights, Peluso does a great job of standing in against the St. Louis forward. This is easily one of the year’s best.
