Daniel Sedin didn’t really pull out his tooth

You might remember that earlier this week Daniel Sedin was the victim of a high stick courtesy of Jake Muzzin. It appeared that Daniel pulled his own tooth out to show the ref, and many were puzzled by the fact that it wasn't a four minute minor. Witness the penalty: http://youtube.com/watch?v=hlWJ6jvTsXU?rel=0 Ow. Turns out there […]

Cory Schneider frustrated, says “It’s Groundhog Day for me”

It's time to feel sorry for Cory Schneider again. After being traded from the Vancouver Canucks to the New Jersey Devils, it looked like Schneider's days of sitting on the bench were over. Lo and behold, Schneider is once again struggling to find playing time and is trapped behind another goaltender. Replace Roberto Luongo with […]

Lightning rookie Nikita Kucherov scores first goal on first shot

Every young new player would love to play like Mario Lemieux. Very few successfully emulate him. It was no Monday night for Nikita Kucherov, who scored his first NHL goal tonight on his first shot in his first game: Someone grab that man the puck! The Bolts went on to defeat the New York Rangers […]

Class action complaint filed against NHL over concussions

Fans, players, and the league probably expected this sooner or later. A la former NFL players, a group of former NHL players are suing the league in a class-action suit regarding concussions. The NFL group had about 4500 players involved. Here? Ten. These 10 guys played between 1970 and 1997, and none of them are […]

Hockey Fights of the Week: 11/18 – 11/24

Welcome to another installment of Hockey Fights of the Week. This week we're preaching balance. Three of the five fights this week are pretty lopsided, but all five bouts fall into a similar category. Each scrap you see below is solid, but it's highly doubtful any of these altercations will be remembered as one of […]

Video: Jared Cowen elbows Pavel Datsyuk, escapes NHL discipline

http://youtube.com/watch?v=CAh4bU1dnTE?rel=0 Ottawa's Jared Cowen delivered a nasty elbow to the head of Detroit's Pavel Datsyuk. The incident looked pretty bad live, but replays proved Cowen went out of his way to stick Datsyuk in the head with his elbow long after the puck left the area.  Surely Cowen would receive some sort of punishment from […]

Avalanche goaltender Varlamov brought up on assault charges

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov has officially been handed down charges by the Denver District Attorney’s Office stemming from an incident last month. As first reported on by the Denver Post, Varlamov will be heading to court on one count of assault in the third degree, a Class 1 misdemeanor in the State of Colorado. […]

NHL’s next step into reality TV should involve the playoffs

I was at the NHL's announcement on Monday that they were going forward with NHL Revealed: A Season Like No Other, a seven-part series providing inside access to the nine teams involved in the Stadium Series and Heritage Classic. It was an impressive presentation in New York City. I have complete faith in the league's partners […]

Winnipeg Jets kill #HelmetPardy radio promo

We all remember the incident a week ago in Chicago where Adam Pardy was knocked into the glass, the glass fell backwards on some fans, and a very drunk guy took the opportunity to steal Pardy's helmet while his significant other made it rain beer on Pardy's head?  If you don't, here. Any who, a local […]

Hockey Fights of the Week: 11/11 – 11/17

It feels like the 2013-14 season just started, but here we are with our seventh installment of Hockey Fights of the Week. So far we've seen a little bit of everything. We've seen fights which are early candidates for best of the season, fights which cast a negative light on the sport and fights which […]

NHL index: 11-18

Biggest story of the week   Steven Stamkos was having a MVP-like start to the season.  On Monday, he broke his leg in an unfortunate collision with the post.  He’s going to be sidelined for at least a few months, and his chances of playing in the Olympics aren’t looking good.  Tampa Bay was playing lights-out recently, and this is certainly going to really challenge them.  Head Coach Jon Cooper is confident that his team is still capable of playing decent hockey, even without Stamkos.  They won two of three this week and have been playing a great team game all season.  The injury to Stamkos may catch up with them at some point but they’re moving forward for now.     Goal of the week Jamie Benn with a ridiculous goal against the Flames http://youtube.com/watch?v=1VprhCXCFkQ   Save of the week The Stars owned the highlights this week.  Kari Lehtonen is making a habit of having the save of the week. http://youtube.com/watch?v=_2yZBxd-Fyg   Top 5 Teams   1.  St. Louis – Many predicted the Blues to be a strong team this year.  They have points in 16 of 19 games.  Alex Steen has been unbelievable. 2.  Chicago – They picked up old friend Kris Versteeg this week in a deal with Florida. 3.  San Jose – Ended a 5-game road trip Sunday.  Got points in 4 of 5 games in breaking out of their slump. 4.  Phoenix – Not enough respect is given to the Yotes. Oliver Ekman-Larsson is a world class defenseman. 5.  Anaheim – Losers of three in a row, one of those a shootout loss, the Ducks are still playing solid.   This marks the second week in a row that a team from the East isn’t in the top 5.  Only one team in the East, Tampa Bay, would qualify for the playoffs if they were in the West.   Biggest Meltdown   Mike Milbury was highly critical of the Buffalo Sabres decision to hire Pat Lafontaine and Ten Nolan on NBCSN this week.  He went as far as to call it a PR move, […]

Jarome Iginla explains why he’s in favor of fighting in the NHL

The media loves to debate the topic of fighting in hockey. As the NHL places more restrictions on fights (helmets on with mandatory visors), the debate rages on over whether the NHL should ban fighting in hockey once and for all.  However, there's one group that's consistently in favor of fighting: the players. Some 98% […]

Martin Brodeur is the symbol of a confounding Devils team

The first time I met Martin Brodeur, I was seven years old. My mother and I were in the dystopic confines of a KMart in Parsippany, New Jersey, where the then 24-year-old Brodeur was signing autographs. He still had a thick French accent, but he signed everything and was nice, according to my mother.  17 […]

Are other teams calling the Jets about Evander Kane?

Apparently other teams are sniffing around the Winnipeg Jets' best player, Evander Kane. Recent hub bubs regarding Kane being a "healthy scratch" against the Chicago Blackhawks last week have apparently led to rumors that Kane is unhappy playing under coach Claude Noel. As you may remember, Alex Burmistrov had well-known differences with the coach, and […]
