Predators GM admits the Cody Franson trade wasn’t a perfect fit

The Nashville Predators made it clear prior to the trade deadline that their intention was to win now. That was the approach for numerous teams, but the Predators put their future on the line by making deals near the deadline. The team dealt away their first-round pick for the 2015 Draft to the Toronto Maple Leafs […]

Are the NHL playoffs really a “different animal” from the regular season?

The sports world is full of narratives, and hockey is not immune to their pitfalls. Narratives are woven so deeply into the culture of the sport that fans, broadcasters, and general managers alike fall victim to narratives without realizing it. We hear so often about “grit” and its cousins “sandpaper” and “determination,” etc. and their […]

Rangers aren’t using capital letters on Twitter for series against the Capitals

You may have noticed something a little strange if you follow the New York Rangers on Twitter. As they prepare for a playoff matchup against the Washington Capitals in the second round, the account suddenly stopped using capital letters in their Tweets. From quotes to news announcements, the social media team has made a concentrated, […]

Video: Petr Mrazek robs Brian Boyle with a great stick save

We’re not even through the first round of the playoffs and Petr Mrazek may have made the best save of the tournament. His save with the paddle on Brian Boyle was so good that it completely fooled the announcer and stunned the Tampa Bay Lightning. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4ht5z0A4Ts That’s just incredible. You could make the case that Boyle […]

Which NHL teams need the biggest overhaul?

Video: Canadiens play a prank on Carey Price

Carey Price stopped 43 shots in the Canadiens’ Game 6 victory over the Senators. Price made some ridiculous saves during his shutout and was largely responsible for the Canadiens moving on from the first round. Following his effort, the Canadiens decided to play a little joke on him.

ABC station in Chicago refers to the Blackhawks as the “Blacks”

Here’s a funny blooper out of Chicago courtesy of ABC 7. The station was about to run highlights of the Blackhawks’ Game 6 victory over the Predators and there was a small typo/blooper in their graphic. Instead of simply writing “Blackhawks Win” the screen read “Blacks Win” instead. Via Reddit Hockey: Oops.

Video: Matt Niskanen hits a beer bottle back into the stands

You might remember that Islanders fans nailed Brooks Orpik with a beer a couple games ago. Following the Islanders’ win in Game 6, fans tossed several cups and objects at the Capitals as they left the ice. The Caps looked pretty irritated (rightfully so) and Matt Niskanen took it upon himself to send a beer […]

Gary Bettman’s nonsensical quote about dual expansion

Expansion continues to be a hot topic in the NHL and Gary Bettman was recently asked about the possibility of a new team joining the Eastern Conference. Based on the current structure of the league (14 teams in the West and 16 in the East), the obvious solution is to place two teams in the […]

Video: Slovak goalie’s horrible attempt to save a shootout shot

Kaspars Daugavins’ shootout goal was pretty nifty, but the real story here is the feeble attempted save by Slovak goalie Jan Laco. Daugavins’ had a pretty unique approach, dragging the puck with the tip of his stick, but Laco’s “I’ll just lay down” effort is something special. (H/T Reddit Hockey)
