5 NHL teams set to get better during 2016-17 season

It’s always hard to predict turnover in the NHL, except to predict that there will be. Last year at Puck Drunk Love, I tried to guess five teams that finished out of the postseason in 2014-15 which would make the playoffs last season. There were exactly five teams that made the playoffs in 2015-16 after […]

Oilers make Connor McDavid the youngest captain in NHL history

The Edmonton Oilers have left no doubt as to whose team this is, as they have officially named Connor McDavid their captain for the 2016-17 season, and in the process made him the youngest captain in team history. He beat out the previous record holder, Colorado’s Gabriel Landeskog, by mere days.

The best and worst from the 2016 World Cup of Hockey

The World Cup of Hockey has come to a close, and Canada has proven itself to be our hockey overlords once again with a two-game sweep against the rag tag team of European nations that the tournament didn’t have room for. They did it with a scintillating comeback from 1-0 down to win in the […]

Mike Babcock compliments Brad Marchand by calling him a pain in the butt

Team Canada blasted the Czech Republic in their World Cup opener by a score of 6-0, and one of the main reasons was Bruins pest Brad Marchand. Marchand flourished on a line with Sidney Crosby and Patrice Bergeron as he had three points in the first period to help Canada to a 3-0 lead. Team […]

Ovechkin still plans to play in the Olympics even if the NHL doesn’t participate

It was just about a year ago that Alex Ovechkin made his intentions clear about playing in the 2018 Olympics in South Korea, whether the NHL is there or not. Now that the World Cup of Hockey is about to start, Pierre LeBrun of ESPN checked back with Ovechkin to see if his thoughts had […]

David Booth wants an All-Buyout team at the World Cup, so we created one

The calendar has hit September, which means we’re on the eve of the World Cup of Hockey which is coming up at the end of the month. Former NHL’er David Booth recently tweeted a great idea for an extra team for the tournament: C’mon David. A little late for this idea, no? You should have […]

James Reimer’s wife had a great way to announce her pregnancy

We could all argue about which Florida Panthers goalie gives the team the best chance to win going forward this season: Incumbent Roberto Luongo, or newcomer James Reimer. But one thing we thought we couldn’t argue was which goalie had more social media skills. Luongo’s

Paul Bissonnette works social media to try to find a job

With all the free agents flying around signing deals on this first day of free agency, it’s easy to forget that there are lesser players still looking for a job. Many people, not just hockey players, are using social media as a tool to network. Those with plenty of followers and contacts are working that […]

Panthers go all in, sign James Reimer

The Florida Panthers have made what you might think is an odd free agency day signing: goaltender James Reimer has joined the Cats on a five-year, $17 million deal. The Panthers have certainly not gotten complacent with their recent success, signing Keith Yandle and re-signing Aaron Ekblad to huge deals. But you might wonder why […]

Red Wings unload Pavel Datsyuk’s money, making room for Steven Stamkos?

Well we have expected this, and the Red Wings pulled it off at the draft. They have unloaded Pavel Datsyuk’s contract to the Arizona Coyotes in a deal which also saw them give up the 16th pick of the draft. In return, the Red Wings get the 20th pick, the 53rd pick, Joe Vitale, and […]

Video: These Kings fans believe they won the Stanley Cup this year

Those who watch Jimmy Kimmel Live regularly will recall a recurring bit called “Lie Witness News”, where the Kimmel camera crew will find people who will fall for any fake news story they feed them, even the obviously fake ones. Monday night, they fooled people into thinking that it was the Los Angeles Kings, and […]

Marc Savard’s contract traded again, is Pavel Datsyuk’s next?

The Stanley Cup Final is almost over, which can only mean one thing: It’s time for Marc Savard’s contract to be traded again. Last year, his contract went to the Florida Panthers. This year, the NHL’s version of Flat Stanley is on the move again … this time, to New Jersey. The Panthers were looking […]
