Some days aren't the best for Edmonton Oilers goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov. Sure, he'll make combined $3.47 million this season between his bought out Philadelphia Flyer contract and the one he's earning now in Edmonton, and he's mostly played well with the Oil (a .916 save percentage in nine games despite a losing record). But some days, your old team comes back from a 3-2 deficit and scores a 5-on-3 goal to tie the game in the third period. And this is how you react.
The CBC announcers — Rick Ball and Kelly Hrudey — were chiding Bryz for "negative body language" which is a bogus way of capitalizing on the fact that most people think he's nuts and a bad guy in the room. But hey, minutes later they were saying they still "liked" the shootout so really, who are the crazy ones, them or Ilya Bryzgalov?
Philadelphia went on to beat Edmonton, 4-3 in the shootout. Sadly, there was no stick throw from our man Bryz. He's unconventional, he's a weirdo, he does stuff like this… but we've always pointed out that goalies are weird, and hockey is much more fun and unpredictable with him involved in it at its highest level. Well, the Oilers only sort of count, but still.
