United Center debris falls onto the ice

When you play in an old barn, generally the appeal is the history and tradition of the structure. Sometimes the arena is just a focal point to a great area of town. In the Chicago Blackhawks case, the United Center has only been opened up for twenty or so years but it has seen multiple Stanley Cups and multiple NBA titles. A building with a championship pedigree is a building the fans love to come to, even when the building may rain large pieces of debris onto the ice.

And another look:

Was it caused by an Oilers goal?

You know, just a standard Sunday evening where stuff falls from the sky and the players narrowly avoid being hit.
