Here’s an ugly hit from the 2015 World Hockey Championships. Stephan Daschner stepped up and leveled Mattias Ekholm as Ekholm tried to enter the offensive zone. The crunching check completely caught Ekholm by surprise as it wasn’t anywhere close to the puck.
Daschner earned a deserved two-minute interference penalty and a game misconduct.
The hit left Ekholm bloodied and the damage was visible on his sweater.
