There are some NHL teams that bring in big bucks, like the Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, and Boston Bruins. None of them can touch the juggernaut that is college sports. According to CBS News, the University of Alabama’s athletic revenue is more than the individual revenues of all 30 NHL franchises. For last year, […]

So, with about three minutes to go, they started chanting “Fire Gillis.” http://youtu.be/3OLJDqT_EuM The announcers picked up on it […]

Hockey Fights of the Week: 3/31 – 4/6

Welcome to our second to last installment of Hockey Fights of the Week of the 2013-14 season. As we’ve discussed in the past, teams are doing more fighting in the standings than they are on the ice as the season winds down. That’s not to say everyone is playing nice (they’re not), but it does […]

Nathan Horton scores a goal in a game he doesn’t play in

UPDATE: Horton’s injury is a historic one. He reportedly didn’t travel with the team to Dallas which means he really will score a goal despite not playing or even being in the same state. It’s an incredible and ridiculous stat. The Blue Jackets really could have used him in their bout against the Stars, but […]

The NHL Draft probably won’t be changing anytime soon

There’s been plenty of discussion and speculation that the NHL will alter the format of the NHL Draft in order to prevent teams from intentionally losing in order to pick up a star player. With the 2015 Draft expected to be loaded with talent, the NHL is supposedly weighing their options. According to Buffalo GM […]

Broadcast Blooper: Capitals score a ton of goals in the shootout

It’s rather ironic that the day we post an article detailing the struggles in Washington the team has an incredible broadcast blooper on CSN. Shortly after defeating the New York Islanders in a shootout, the scoreboard on the broadcast stated the Capitals won by a score of 16-3. Looks like someone was really, really excited […]

Video: Patrick Elias hit into stanchion

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuFqEN4wjcM

The Devils lost Patrick Elias, Adam Henrique and Jacob Josefson to injuries when they took on the Capitals on Friday night. The most cringe-worthy of the bunch had to be Elias’ as he was hit into one of the stanchions separating the benches by Washington’s Tom Wilson.

The stanchions are now padded after a few scary incidents over the past few years, but this is still a tough video to watch.

Alexandre Burrows receives death threats after hit on Ryan McDonagh

Alexandre Burrows has received plenty of criticism – among other things – for his hit on Ryan McDonagh. The hit came late in the third period as the Canucks were trailing the Rangers by a score of 3-1. Borrows got his hands up high and pushed a defenseless McDonagh awkwardly into the boards. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eseS0k41pqM Burrows received […]

The rise of Gustav Nyquist

Just when it looked like the Red Wings were down and out, their impeccable ability to find draft picks paid off again. Earlier this season, the name Gustav Nyquist meant nothing. These days, when the Red Wings play, it seems Nyquist is doing incredible things. If you haven’t been paying attention to Nyquist, you might want too. […]

Robin Lehner’s piranha are named after Ottawa beat writers

It’s always interesting seeing what sort of relationship a player has with the various local reporters in charge of covering their team. Most players and reporters seem to have a fairly respectful relationship, with both sides reaching a mutual agreement on boundaries and confidentiality. In other cases, reporters develop a pretty bad reputation for latching […]
