Video: Johnny Oduya cross-checks Zach Parise in the back of the head

Fresh off Brandon Dubinsky cross-checking Sidney Crosby in the neck, Johnny Oduya provided another example of the type of plays the league needs to crack down on by cross-checking Zach Parise in the back of the head. The first check is fine, but the second into Parise’s head while he is down on the ice […]

Video: Evgeni Malkin scores ridiculous spin-o-rama goal

When you are as good of a player as Evgeni Malkin, you sometimes score goals that make the hockey world’s jaw drop. When a world class player plays the Oilers, the likelihood of such a play goes up. https://cdn.streamable.com/video/mp4/zrkn.mp4 Poor Mark Fayne, he never even had a chance. Malkin at times may be described as […]

Video: Niklas Kronwall bulldozes Mark Letestu

Niklas Kronwall took some time off delivering huge checks after picking up a one-game suspension during the playoffs last season. Kronwall returned to form this weekend, bulldozing Mark Letestu with a big, clean hit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nIwDp4LvmI The Oilers took exception and understandably so considering their recent run of injuries. Anger from the Oilers aside, the hit appeared […]

Henrik Lundqvist was accused of embellishing contact on a close play in front of his crease as the New York Rangers visited the Boston Bruins. Brad Marchand made contact with Lundqvist and was given a two-minute goaltender interference penalty on the play. Here’s a look at the contact: Following the game, Boston head coach Calude Julien […]

Video: Dubinsky cross-checks Crosby in the neck

Brandon Dubinsky might be receiving a call from the NHL after cross-checking Sidney Crosby in the back of the neck. The two were battling for position in front of the Columbus goal and Dubinsky gave Crosby a few checks in the back. Then he appeared to knowingly aim a bit higher, striking Crosby in the […]

The NHL should take advantage of Thanksgiving

As you were sitting around the table hanging out with family, friends and various other loved ones enjoying turkey and stuffing, only a couple of sports were on your TV. College basketball and the NFL dominated the day as the only games on during the festivities. It doesn’t necessarily have to be that way though, […]

Another year, another struggling Oilers squad

The Edmonton Oilers entered the season on a positive note. They lucked out and won the Connor McDavid sweepstakes, gutted management by bringing in Todd McLellan and Peter Chiarelli, and addressed the gaping needs in goal and on the blue line by bringing in players like Cam Talbot and Andrej Sekera. Analytically, they’ve showed better results than last […]

Alexander Radulov returning to the NHL is a possibility

It’s that time of the year where rumors start picking up about Alexander Radulov returning to the NHL. Radulov being eager to become a free agent doesn’t necessarily link him directly to an NHL return, but it certainly doesn’t put any of the rumors to rest. His last stint in the NHL was in 2011-12 when […]

Ryan Getzlaf blames poor play on small crowd in Arizona

The Anaheim Ducks looked pretty flat against the Arizona Coyotes and Ryan Getzlaf had an odd excuse as to why his team was slow out of the gate. Apparently the small crowd in Arizona (11,578 people) led to a sluggish visiting Ducks squad.

Video: Ref wants no part of Boston’s celebration

Frank Vatrano tipped a puck past Petr Mrazek to give the Boston Bruins a big OT win and he immediately went over to the boards to celebrate. His celebration got a little bit too close to referee Dan O’Halloran who immediately pushed the Bruins forward away. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9-zoXxWqmY

What we’re thankful for in the NHL

Thanksgiving is here in the United States and it’s time for everyone to stop and reflect on what they’re thankful for in their lives. The PDL team, including our resident Canadian which is a requirement for any hockey blog, got together and compiled a list of items we’re thankful for in the NHL. Liam I’m […]

Video: Marcus Foligno flips Carter Hutton

Carter Hutton was pretty lucky to avoid an injury after flipping over Marcus Foligno. The two players were racing to a loose puck, arriving at the same time with a huge collision. Foligno dove, crashing into Hutton’s pads and sending the goalie flying. Hutton landed on his head and fell into the boards but stayed in […]

Video: Ref pulls down Yakupov, injures his leg

This is the type of injury which would only happen to the Edmonton Oilers. Immediately after a draw, the official tripped over a stick and reached out to catch his balance. His hand found Nail Yakupov, yanking him down on the ice and landing on the forward’s leg/knee. Watch as Yakupov’s leg folds under the linesman. […]
