Video: Evgeni Malkin hits his own goalie in the face with his stick

Penguins goalie Matt Murray might want to bail a little quicker when his teammates are fighting past the whistle. Last night’s disastrous loss to the Capitals had its cherry on top of their awful sundae with :23 left in the first period when Evgeni Malkin got into a post-whistle scrap with T.J. Oshie after Oshie gently crashed the net.

After Murray’s helmet came off, Malkin defended his goalie. But then …

Malkin’s stick swung around and knocked a helmet-less Murray in the face, and he had to leave the game. Marc-Andre Fleury came in and couldn’t even keep the Capitals scoreless in the last 23 seconds of the period, and the rout was on. Thankfully, Matt Murray wasn’t hurt seriously. But jeez, Geno. Be more careful with your stick!
