The calendar has flipped to December which means it’s time for things to start getting serious in the NHL. The excuse of “it’s still early” doesn’t fly when Christmas starts approaching and because of that teams and players start playing a bit more physical. In other words, it’s a fun time of year for hockey fans.
5. Kurtis Gabriel (MIN) vs Zack Kassian (EDM)
Kassian may have stepped a little over the line by hitting Gabriel while he was down, but that shouldn’t take away too much from this lopsided victory.
4. Steve Ott (DET) vs Travis Hamonic (NYI)
Ott loves to stir things up, but here he gets pummeled. Harmonic not only handles his own. He completely dominates the fight by a huge margin.
3. Austin Watson (NSH) vs Cody McLeod (COL)
This isn’t the quickest of fights, but it was a fun look at some of the fights of old which lacked pace but still contained plenty of tenacity.
2. Kevin Bieksa (ANA) vs Micheal Ferland (CGY)
This is a pretty even fight, but we’ve got to give the win to Ferland. To borrow a baseball expression, he’s trying to hit a homer with every punch he throws. Each blow is intended to be a KO. Ferland is wild and it causes him to lose his balance, but he pops back up and continues to reach back and throw monster punches.
1. Matt Martin (TOR) vs Erik Gudbranson (VAN)
Fans eagerly awaited a rematch between the Leafs and Canucks after the two teams had a massive brawl earlier in the season. The day finally came and Martin and Gudbranson delivered. The two had an extremely level fight which should go down as one of the best of the season.
