Teemu Selanne’s got jokes.
The retired Anaheim Ducks star was appearing at an alumni game representing the Winnipeg Jets against Edmonton Oilers stars. Many Jets and Oilers legends including Dale Hawerchuk, Wayne Gretzky, Paul Coffey and Jari Kurri played in the game.
Selanne, who last appeared with the Ducks in 2013-14, joked it would take him just two weeks of training to be NHL ready.
“Two weeks (of) training and I would be ready for the NHL,” the former superstar quipped at the Winnipeg Jets alumni practice Friday, according to Finnish reporter Sami Hoffren.
The statement may appear boastful, but it’s just in jest. Selanne wiped out during practice for the game (much to the delight of the crowd) and admitted following the game he felt like he never skated before.

The 46-year-old might not be returning to the NHL, but he’s still beloved in hockey circles. He was presented a key to the city of Winnipeg on Friday by mayor Brian Bowman, honoring his three-and-a-half seasons in the Peg.
Selanne is one of the game’s great personalities and his comments from the alumni game prove that. Teemu isn’t coming back to the game, but it makes for a hell of a soundbite. Well done, Selanne.
