P.K. Subban is going to be in the news all the time. He is charismatic, fun and exactly what the media wants in a hockey player. He was asked how the young players on the Toronto Maple Leafs should react to all of the attention and it led to one of the better quotes this hockey season.

The quote is not only the truth but it illuminates a part of the game that gets overlooked. They are all just playing a game. It needs to be fun for the players themselves and the fans. We covered how absurd it was that the NHL is refusing to market its own players which means if the league isn’t going to do it, then the players will have to do it themselves.
Subban has taken that aspect of his life into his own hands. He knows what he is doing when he is so open and honest with the media and it only bodes well for him. Pairing it with his electric on-ice skills makes it a perfect combo. As players like Mitch Marner, William Nylander and Auston Matthews become mainstays in the league, let’s hope they don’t forget the fun parts of the game.
