Mike Commodore’s career has taken a new, surprising path.
[link_box id=”22277″ site_id=”17″ layout=”link-box-third” alignment=”alignright”]When he’s not telling people to #PackYourShit on Twitter, the former Carolina Hurricanes defenseman will be a driver for Uber. Bob McKenzie of TSN.ca wrote an excellent piece on the now retired-defenseman, detailing his first day as an Uber driver in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Commodore earned $94 (plus a $5 tip) from driving his Cadillac Escalade last Friday night. That’s not a bad day’s wage for a retiree. You might be wondering why Commodore drove for Uber when he made nearly $20 million in his career. No, he’s not broke. He’s just looking to kill some time and meet new people.
“I’m single, I’ve got no kids, I was just looking for something to get me out of the house and keep me out of the bars,” Commodore said earlier Monday while on his way to play golf. “I don’t really do too much except play golf or go to the bar, so I figured this would be a good social thing for me.
“I don’t mind driving. I like to meet people and I like to talk to people. I’ll definitely do it again, one night a weekend or maybe even during the week.”
It’s hard to criticize Commodore for taking on the job. He’s keeping busy and making some extra money on the side, all the while, meeting new people and helping them with their day. It’s an admirable venture. It might seem silly, but if Commodore is enjoying doing it, then that’s great. He’s even got a great rating from a good buddy.
Kind of late to the party but @commie22 driving Uber in Scottsdale is amazing. Just a down to earth good guy. #5Stars
