Landeskog on Avs’ struggles: “It’s probably as frustrating as it’s ever been”

[link_box id=”22277″ site_id=”17″ layout=”link-box-third” alignment=”alignright”]What was supposed to be a clean slate after the departure of Patrick Roy has turned into a nightmare for the Colorado Avalanche.

As the mid-season mark approaches for the 2016-17 season, the Avalanche sit near or at the bottom in almost every important standings category. Colorado is 30th in points, with 23 in 32 games. The club’s won only 11 times. The Avalanche have scored the fewest goals (65) and are tied for the most against in the West with 105. That’s a league worst -40 goal differential.

The Avs’ struggles were evident in last night’s 6-0 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on home ice. The team didn’t compete and were wildly outplayed by the fringe playoff Leafs.

After the game, Gabriel Landeskog expressed his frustration at the Avs’ current state. He called the club’s struggles “as frustrating as it’s ever been.”

“I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t frustrating right now,” Landeskog, captain of the NHL’s worst team told Mark Kiszla of the Denver Post. “It’s probably as frustrating as it’s ever been.”

Things aren’t going to get better, as the Avs’ lack of depth erodes any chances of making a miraculous comeback. The question as the season drags on and if Colorado continues to struggle is, do they make changes? Joe Sakic hasn’t done a great job building the team and new coach Jared Bednar has looked like a fish out of water. Being an Avs fan is tougher than it’s ever been.
