Craig Anderson recently left the Senators due to personal reasons but returned to the team with a very big announcement. His wife, Nicholle was diagnosed with cancer, which is an absolutely heart wrenching development.
When you are in the public sphere like Anderson, everything becomes magnified times one hundred.
Pierre Dorion, the Senators GM made a statement on behalf of the Anderson family.
“Nicholle Anderson has been diagnosed with cancer, it’s very early in the process. We don’t have many tests right now but we’re there for them and right now they’re in the wait period.”
“Given that they’re in the wait period and Andrew Hammond’s (hurt), Nicholle told Craig to phone me, which he did during the game. We talked to Craig after the game and it was determined that because they’re in a wait period and they were going to drive to Ottawa together as a family today that it would be all right for Craig to come and rejoin his team.”
The well being of Anderson and his family takes priority and it is amazing to see the Senators throw their support behind them. This isn’t the first time the organization has dealt with this terrible disease. Former GM Bryan Murray has been dealing with intestinal cancer for a number of years now.
Anderson ended up having a shutout and was named the first star of the game. Understandably, he was in tears and was an emotional wreck. It is one of the best hockey moments in recent memory as the crowd cheered for the visiting goaltender.
