Some NHL coaches like to keep their cards close to the chest when it comes to roster changes, which goalie is starting or potential line combinations. Barry Trotz occasionally falls into that category, but he also likes to have some fun with the beat reporters covering the Washington Capitals.
Isabelle Khurshudyan of the Washington Post had a simple question regarding who the Capitals were going to start in goal in their upcoming game. Trotz gave a response for the ages.
Me: "Who's your starting goaltender?"
Trotz: "Yes."
Me: "No, I said who is it?"
Trotz: "Yes."#playoffbarry— Isabelle Khurshudyan (@ikhurshudyan) December 31, 2016
Trotz still needs to perfect his Who’s on First routine, but he’s off to a strong start. He didn’t stop with the vague riddles when asked about the rest of the starting roster.
Me: "Same skaters as last game?"
Trotz: "Possibly."#playoffbarry

Classic Barry.
