Video: Petr Mrazek robs Brian Boyle with a great stick save

We’re not even through the first round of the playoffs and Petr Mrazek may have made the best save of the tournament. His save with the paddle on Brian Boyle was so good that it completely fooled the announcer and stunned the Tampa Bay Lightning. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4ht5z0A4Ts That’s just incredible. You could make the case that Boyle […]

Video: Canadiens play a prank on Carey Price

Carey Price stopped 43 shots in the Canadiens’ Game 6 victory over the Senators. Price made some ridiculous saves during his shutout and was largely responsible for the Canadiens moving on from the first round. Following his effort, the Canadiens decided to play a little joke on him.

ABC station in Chicago refers to the Blackhawks as the “Blacks”

Here’s a funny blooper out of Chicago courtesy of ABC 7. The station was about to run highlights of the Blackhawks’ Game 6 victory over the Predators and there was a small typo/blooper in their graphic. Instead of simply writing “Blackhawks Win” the screen read “Blacks Win” instead. Via Reddit Hockey: Oops.

Video: Matt Niskanen hits a beer bottle back into the stands

You might remember that Islanders fans nailed Brooks Orpik with a beer a couple games ago. Following the Islanders’ win in Game 6, fans tossed several cups and objects at the Capitals as they left the ice. The Caps looked pretty irritated (rightfully so) and Matt Niskanen took it upon himself to send a beer […]

Gary Bettman’s nonsensical quote about dual expansion

Expansion continues to be a hot topic in the NHL and Gary Bettman was recently asked about the possibility of a new team joining the Eastern Conference. Based on the current structure of the league (14 teams in the West and 16 in the East), the obvious solution is to place two teams in the […]

Video: Slovak goalie’s horrible attempt to save a shootout shot

Kaspars Daugavins’ shootout goal was pretty nifty, but the real story here is the feeble attempted save by Slovak goalie Jan Laco. Daugavins’ had a pretty unique approach, dragging the puck with the tip of his stick, but Laco’s “I’ll just lay down” effort is something special. (H/T Reddit Hockey)

The Washington Capitals have an opportunity to close out their series against the New York Islanders on Saturday afternoon inside the Nassau Coliseum. Should the Capitals win Game 6, the doors will officially close on the arena and the Isles will officially call Brooklyn home. Alex Ovechkin was asked about the opportunity to close out the […]

Uniform colors have already been picked for a Vegas NHL team

The NHL hasn’t given the city of Las Vegas a hockey team quite yet, but that hasn’t stopped those connected to the project from selecting uniform colors for the future squad. Prospective Vegas owner Bill Foley participated in a social media interview with fans and he revealed three colors the team would be using should […]

Mayor in Minnesota asks Wild “Wtf was that?” after Game 4 loss

Chris Coleman, the mayor of St. Paul, Minnesota, wasn’t sure what happened to the Minnesota Wild in Game 4 in their series against the St. Louis Blues. Following a dominant Game 3 win, the Wild were blasted at home by a lopsided score. Coleman’s reaction mimicked the feelings felt from Wild fans everywhere: Rarely will you […]

Video: Ben Bishop knocks the puck into his own net

How did Ben Bishop follow up his bizarre holding penalty? By knocking a puck into the air and then into his own net, of course. He initially made a save with his glove/left arm, the puck then deflected across his body and then that’s where everything fell apart. Via Reddit Hockey: What a strange, strange […]

GIF: Goaltender Ben Bishop called for holding

Goaltenders don’t receive penalties too often and when they do it’s usually for Delay of Game (puck over the glass) or some sort of slashing or interference call for hitting a player with their stick in front of the crease. Ben Bishop wanted to do something a bit different and picked up two minutes for […]

Video: Max Lapierre fakes being hit to draw a penalty

Max Lapierre went to some extreme lengths to draw a penalty in Game 4 against the Rangers. As Lapierre skated to the bench, he bumped into John Moore. Though there was no contact to Lapierre’s head or face, that didn’t prevent the Penguins forward from dropping his stick and clutching his face to draw a […]

Video: Fan throws a beer at Brooks Orpik

We recently talked about Islanders fans and how they prematurely stole seats from the Nassau Coliseum. This time the story isn’t quite as quirky as one fan tossed a beer at Brooks Orpik following Washington’s Game 4 victory. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QydnXvVPiM Don’t. Throw. Things. On. The. Ice.

Nicklas Backstrom’s loving quote about Braden Holtby

There’s a lot of love for Braden Holtby in the Washington Capitals dressing room. Nicklas Backstrom commented on Holbty following the goaltender’s huge 36-save OT win over the Islanders on Tuesday and it’s clear Backstrom holds Holtby in high regard. So much so that it led to a comical statement that Backstrom quickly corrected. Great quote. […]
