Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invited Gary Bettman to a state dinner during his visit to the United States, but he probably didn’t expect to be mocked about Canada’s inability to win the Stanley Cup during his trip. That ridicule wasn’t from Bettman, but the honor came from President Obama himself.
The Cup currently resides with the Chicago Blackhawks, Obama’s hometown team, and it’s looking like there won’t be any Canadian contenders for the Cup this season. Obama said both countries have their differences, including who is better at hockey.
Zing!
Hockey fans have traditionally given U.S. Presidents a difficult time for not attending hockey games, but this was a pretty solid burn from Obama.
Maybe it’s time for Canada to admit things have changed since some of the NHL’s best teams reside in California and Florida?
