Hockey can get the blood boiling if you are a fan, a player or even a coach. When you get worked up during a preseason game though, you may need to work on your anger management skills. In a preseason match between Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod and Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk, the two head coaches ended up going at it. The results were less than pretty.
The names of the two coaches are Pēteris Skudra and Yevgeni Popikhin. Skudra the head coach of Torpedo and Popikhin the head coach of Neftekhimik. You may know Skudra from his time with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Vancouver Canucks as a goalie.
Player fights are beginning to go the way of the dinosaur, but will head coaches start getting in fights here in North America? I doubt it, as we haven’t seen any head coach get this ornery since John Tortorella was behind the bench in Vancouver. Nonetheless, it does bring some excitement and spontaneity to preseason hockey. If there is one thing we can count on, it is that the KHL will continue to give us some of the best clips in hockey. God bless them for it.
