The Rangers/Penguins first round playoff series already featured a third string goalie in Jeff Zatkoff. And now the backup goalie is getting work on the other side, as Henrik Lundqvist was replaced by Antti Raanta to start the second period of Game 1. Here’s why:
Lundqvist was poked in the eye inadvertently by the stick of defenseman Marc Staal with under a minute left. And about 30 seconds later, Lundqvist gave up a goal to Patric Hornqvist from right in front. While Lundqvist may return later in the game, we currently have a Rangers/Penguins playoff series that features Jeff Zatkoff and Antti Raanta.
