Video: Did a fan sneak into the Russian locker room and urinate in Datsyuk’s skate?

One would think that the headline of this article would be all one needed to say about this video. Unfortunately, for you as readers, this is a much more nuanced video. Are you ready to watch an overweight US hockey fan apparently urinate into Pavel Datsyuk’s skate?

The video, first brought to our attention by Greg Wyshynski of Puck Daddy, really is a doozy. It initially screams fake to me. Why would anyone take their jersey off and run around in a locker room half naked? What is in this gentleman’s butt crack too? Is that some sort of noise maker?

USA was defeated by a score of 7-2 in the bronze medal game at the IIHF World Championships by Russia, so the timeline seems to add up. The tournament took place in Russia, so one would think that access to this locker room would be very difficult. The video seems like it is more of a propaganda video then an actual documentation of someone urinating into a skate. At the very least it definitely makes Americans look fat and dumb.

It just doesn’t seem to add up. However, Wyshynski tweeted asking for any help figuring out what was happening in the video and this was a noteworthy response:

Slava Malamud is a well known Russian reporter with insight that few would have. I would tend to believe what he says.

I still lean towards the video being a fake, only because of the weird Russian music being played and a lone Canadian accent in the beginning. It is tough to say.

What do you think?
