Scott Hartnell’s name popped up quite a bit prior to the trade deadline, but nothing ever panned out and he closed out the season with the Columbus Blue Jackets. That may change this summer as Hartnell has reportedly agreed to waive his no-move clause for a “decent-sized list” of teams.
Via Sportsnet.ca:
According to sources, Hartnell, who has a no-move clause, has agreed to waive it for several teams. Kekalainen and agent Matt Oates would not comment, but word is it’s a decent-sized list.
Based on the report, Hartnell’s no-move clause won’t be a hurdle when it comes to shipping him to a new team. His contract, which lasts through 2018-19 and carries an average cap hit of $4.75 million, and his age will be the biggest obstacles to clear when it comes to trade negotiations.
Hartnell, 34, tallied 23 goals and 26 points (49 points) in 79 games for the Blue Jackets in 2015-16. He still has plenty of gas left in the tank and can still contribute for a new team, but his increasing age and the years he has left on his contract may dissuade potential trade partners.
The report doesn’t indicate which clubs are on Hartnell’s list of approved teams, but it’s practically a guarantee that he wants to go to a contender. Considering the immense parity littering the NHL, that could in fact be a very large list of teams.
Plan on Hartnell wearing a new jersey in 2016-17.
