Marc-Edouard Vlasic has had a coming out party during the NHL playoffs.
The 29-year-old has flown under the radar for most of his career playing in California. Vlasic has slowly gained more recognition around the league following a breakthrough playoffs, putting up 10 assists and 11 points in 20 games with the San Jose Sharks, as they battle the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Stanley Cup Final. The rearguard admitted he’s not too concerned about getting credit for the Sharks success.
“I’m here to play my game, help the team win,” Vlasic told The Canadian Press. “If I get credit or I don’t I’m not worried about that. I get it from the players, the coaches, the GMs throughout the league. That’s the No. 1 thing. In order to make teams (like Canada) the GMs have to like the way you play and that’s where I get my credit.”
Vlasic comes across as one humble dude. It sounds like he doesn’t care about the fanfare as long as he’s respected among hockey circles.
The Sharks defenseman has been consistently good for most of his NHL career and has represented Canada on some of the biggest stages. Vlasic was part of the gold medal-winning team at Beijing during the Olympics and was selected to represent Canada at the upcoming World Cup of Hockey. He’s got tons of experience in big games.
Vlasic is among the best defensemen in the NHL due to his consistent approach and balanced game. Brent Burns might be the Sharks number one defender, but Vlasic is a very important cog in San Jose’s d-core. It’s great to see him get recognition, even if he doesn’t care about it.
