Logan Couture names the toughest defensemen he has faced

The Players’ Tribune grants athletes from a variety of sports the opportunity to dive into some rather unique topics. The athletes are candid, honest and maybe even blunt while dissecting a host of subjects such as concussions or drug testing. Though the articles aren’t actually written by the athletes themselves (they are monologue interviews which the athletes approve), they still provide some extremely interesting insight.

Logan Couture took some time recently to create a more lighthearted piece for the website, naming the toughest defensemen (along with two tough forwards) he has faced so far in his career. His list has some names you’d expect and preaches to the wealth of talent which calls the Western Conference home.

Via The Players’ Tribune, Couture named:

Brent Burns
Roman Josi
Duncan Keith
Mark Giordano

Instead of naming a fifth defenseman, Couture calls out Anze Kopitar and Jonathan Toews as two of the best two-way forwards he has skated against. You’d have a hard time arguing against any of Couture’s selections. Josi and Giordano might be surprising names for some, but they are two of the top defensemen in the league and are often underrated by hockey fans at large.

While Couture’s insight is fun to read, this is also a big reminder that August truly is the most dull month for hockey fans.
