Starting a new hockey team from scratch has to be an exciting experience. Putting together a front office, assembling a team of players and also picking the team name. The Lake Erie Warriors, a team that is going to start this year in the National College Prospects Hockey League, a tier-two junior league, is off to a less then stellar start when they debuted this logo.

In a time when everyone is making sure they are compliant with everything, including race relations, how the hell does this get through the first level of vetting? It is on the same level as many other sports logos like the Washington NFL team and the Cleveland Indians. Maybe an even worse level considering this logo was created in an era where those mascots are routinely criticized. I wonder if the Warriors thought they could get this through without anyone noticing. They are a lower level junior team after all.

“You’re only as good as your values” is the first thing you see on the screen, right next to that horrible logo. Wowza. The Western Pennsylvania based team has yet to release a statement on the logo. I wonder if they ever will, with a move as tone deaf as this. I highly doubt it.
