It’s time once again to get social, boys and girls. Welcome to the 24th edition of the hockey tweets of the week. March means that two things are in full swing: Hockey’s playoff drive, and spring training. (I hear there’s also a basketball tournament going on.) But with the marriage of baseball and hockey on the television front, it’s a good week to see some fun ways that the two sports are linked on social media.
Phil Hughes Loves His Lightning
Phil Hughes is a pitcher for the Minnesota Twins, and a very active Tampa Bay Lightning fan on twitter (when he’s not hosting taco night while watching The Bachelor). He recently tweeted this gem:
If Trump builds a wall can he name it Vasilevskiy? Just wow #TBLvsPHI
— Phil Hughes (@PJHughes45) March 8, 2016
Hughes is pretty passionate about his Lightning.
Up a goal in the 3rd. Sit back and wait to lose. Bold strategy
— Phil Hughes (@PJHughes45) March 18, 2016
So this past week after a loss to the Flyers, Hughes felt the wrath of Flyers fans when he let loose this tweet:
Good thing Philly won't be in the playoffs. This is ugly #PHIvsTBL
— Phil Hughes (@PJHughes45) March 12, 2016
While he was actually complimenting the Flyers, he nevertheless started a war with his assumption that the Flyers were too far out of the playoff picture to be dangerous. (They moved into a playoff position this week.)

@PJHughes45 you can't beat us. thanks for helping our playoff push

@PJHughes45 But… pic.twitter.com/Dl186SzYTo

@PJHughes45 @DStrehleTFP neither will the Twins…
— Justin🚮 (@jpeto28) March 12, 2016
Ouch!
Hughes had no problem fighting back …
@bmar120 I don't play and neither do you. If you're referring to the Lightning and Flyers let's look no further than opening night
— Phil Hughes (@PJHughes45) March 12, 2016
Holy sensitive Flyer fans. Yes I realize it's possible they could make the playoffs #PHIvsTBL
— Phil Hughes (@PJHughes45) March 12, 2016
Why is it that 95% of people from Philadelphia just want to battle? Acquire some chill
— Phil Hughes (@PJHughes45) March 12, 2016
even at his own:
@joebeaulieu did you start watching games 5 days ago?
— Phil Hughes (@PJHughes45) March 12, 2016
But all turned out to be well, and Hughes’ “The Bachelor” party went off without a hitch. Then it was time to get back to important issues:
The Bachelor was fun and all but now it's back to real news. Like if Stamkos will come out of the Leafs tunnel tonight 🙄
— Phil Hughes (@PJHughes45) March 15, 2016
He’s just like you and me.
Speaking Of Baseball …
Turns out the Los Angeles Dodgers like to indulge in some puck luck to unwind from the rigors of spring training:

Yes, that's Kershaw taking a wrist shot in @Dodgers clubhouse this morning. pic.twitter.com/qZl4UDZgLV
— Barry M. Bloom (@Boomskie) March 10, 2016
I don’t care if he’s a baseball player, I wouldn’t want to have to face a wrister from Clayton Kershaw.
The Roberto Luongo Tweet Of The Week
Now pay attention, because Luongo gets a little deep here:
Is 3 hot dogs after the 2nd period last night in Montreal a sandwich???
— Strombone (@strombone1) March 16, 2016
Very interesting question. Let’s start by saying …
NO! A HOT DOG IS A HOT DOG!!! A HOT DOG CAN’T BE A SANDWICH BECAUSE IT IS A HOT DOG!!!
Sorry.
Only 2% Of You Will Get This Right

Umm, Doppler radar?
An aerial view of a broccoli farm in Iowa?
Anything other than what I think it is? Please???

Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat’s what I was afraid that would be.
