Goaltender Mike McKenna talks about “mysterious injections” in the KHL

Goaltender Mike McKenna hasn’t made much noise with his professional hockey career, appearing in just 22 NHL games, but he’s got lots of hockey fans talking after posting a bizarre comment on Twitter. McKenna, who most recently skated with the AHL affiliate of the Florida Panthers, stated that he’s heard about “mysterious injections” being given to KHL athletes.

Publicly stating that KHL athletes receive mysterious injections is one hell of a bold and unusual claim. Unfortunately, McKenna didn’t elaborate or offer any details on his comment which makes the whole thing even stranger.

He did say that the injections are being given with consent, but it’s a “take it or get kicked off the team” situation.

McKenna hasn’t personally played in the KHL, but his career throughout the ECHL, AHL and NHL dating back to 2005-06 has likely allowed him to form friendships with players who have skated in the KHL at some point during their career. He may not name names, but it’s still a fairly believable, yet crazy, report.
