George Parros and Jason Zucker are very happy about the NHL coming to Las Vegas.
The NHL announced it’s expanding into Sin City for the 2017/18 season and the news has players with connections to Vegas excited.
Parros, a former Anaheim Ducks tough guy who’s now retired and living in Las Vegas, told NHL.com’s Pat Pickens, he thinks the recently announced Las Vegas expansion team will fit in nicely with the great sports town.
“This is a great sports town,” Parros said at a charity event in Las Vegas on Saturday. “This is going to be a great hockey market.”
“I like to stay close to hockey,” Parros said. “I’m trying to figure out my life in the hockey world here. It’s very exciting to have a team come to town.”
Zucker, a forward with the Minnesota Wild who was raised in Las Vegas, told Pickens he wants to help support the new hockey team and grow its hockey community.
“I love supporting the Vegas community in any way that I can,” said Zucker, “Most people don’t realize that there’s hockey here. It’s fun to be able to talk to them and maybe open their eyes a little bit. But it is a good hockey community.”
It’s great to see NHL players, past and present, publicly support the unnamed Las Vegas franchise. Even if it’s not fully realized, the duo will help it grow the sport in Vegas further. Their comments should ease the mind of those worried about whether Vegas has a feasible hockey community.
