Buffalo Sabres forward Evander Kane has pleaded not guilty to charges of non-criminal harassment, disorderly conduct and trespass, in a Buffalo court room on Monday, reports the Associated Press.
Kane was arrested in late July, following an incident at a Buffalo club in June.
According to court documents, one woman told police Kane put his hands around her neck after she rejected his unwanted advances. She said “she couldn’t breath,” and stated Kane was always “aggressive and disrespectful” around women. A different woman claims Kane grabbed her hair and pulled her hair multiple times during unwanted advances. After she rejected him, she alleges they argued before being broken up. Kane is also alleged to have threatened to kill a bouncer after being kicked out of the club.
Kane has previously run into issues with the law, but didn’t face sexual assault charges in December following an incident at a Buffalo hotel.
The latest allegations are damning, as there are a lot of witness accounts to Kane’s alleged actions. That doesn’t make him guilty. Clearly, he believes the charges are false, otherwise he wouldn’t have entered a not-guilty plea. Even though, some of Kane’s encounters throughout the night were reportedly captured on security footage.
TMZ reports Kane faces 90 days in jail if found guilty, although they note it’s rare for first-time offenders to see jail time. Kane’s hearing is set for Sept. 9.
