Not all pre-deadline trades are created equally. This trade is definitely no different. Today it was reported by Bob McKenzie that the Blackhawks and Kings are trading Rob Scuderi and Christian Ehrhoff in a classic one-for-one trade.
Ehrhoff, age 33, has bounced around recently as he has taken short-term deals over possible lucrative long-term deals to chase his dream of a Stanley Cup. Unfortunately for Ehrhoff, the Kings were none too happy about his play and he’s been relegated to their AHL affiliate. He is only a year removed from his time with the Penguins, which wasn’t remarkable but was definitely better than people gave him credit for.
Scuderi, age 37, has also bounced around recently but not for the same reasons as Ehrhoff. His play as of late has been anywhere between bad and horrible. The Pittsburgh Penguins, who he started the year off with, would have traded him for a plate of magic beans. Somehow he has moved teams once again and will be joining a Kings team that he is awfully familiar with.
It is currently being reported that the Blackhawks will be eating some of the salary here as Scuderi has one more season on his deal, while after this season Ehrhoff will be a UFA.

Taking a look at the charts below, makes the deal even more perplexing.
Somehow the rich have gotten even richer. The Blackhawks continue to swindle teams and make their team stronger for the yearly playoff run they seemingly always go on. Both players may be over the hill, but one of these players is at least going to be serviceable and for that the Blackhawks are the obvious winner of this trade.
