The Montreal Canadiens sat mostly idle this summer, outside of acquiring Alexander Semin and Zack Kassian. Neither deal shook the NHL and the Canadiens opted to mostly stand pat, believing that their young skaters will provide plenty of competition in training camp.
Tomas Plekanec believes the Canadiens have a wealth of young talent and that it might rise to the surface in 2015-16. His comments, as reported by The Score, outlined how he can’t wait to see how the younger players can help push the club forward.
“We didn’t make too many moves in the offseason, but I’m sure the ones we did make will help us a lot. We’ll see. Only time will tell. But, we’ve got plenty of young guys coming out of the minors or Junior that are really fighting to be in Montreal. It will be exciting to see if they can help us. Look at guys like Gally (Brendan Gallagher), Chucky (Alex Galchenyuk), and Beau (Nathan Beaulieu). They all got their chance at some point. That’s a good thing for others to see. It’s going to be a good competition. I expect a lot of kids to get a good look.”
Plekanec doesn’t specifically highlight or mention any players he think might break into the scene, but his comments should ease some Canadiens fans who hoped the team would have been busier over the summer. At the same time, his comments are the type you might hear from any veteran skater on any NHL team. Will his statements prove to be true?
