Phil Kessel is starting a new chapter in his career. As he prepares to skate in his first season with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Kessel has already stated how excited he is about the upcoming year. It’s early, but Kessel has commented on the differences between the two franchises, particularly when it comes to pressure.
Via Sportsnet, Kessel appears to be enjoying the environment in Pittsburgh.
“I think it’s a more relaxed environment than Toronto. I think obviously the media’s a little less here but like I said I expect to do well here and I expect our team to do well so I’m looking forward to it.
It’s a whirlwind but I’m getting settled and getting ready. I’ve got a place here and I’m real excited for the start of the season.”
Maple Leafs fans probably won’t take too kindly to Kessel’s comments, but it’s no surprise that the atmosphere with the Penguins isn’t quite as stressful. Add in the fact that Kessel will skate with either Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin, things are looking pretty good for the forward.
Considering the insane talent Kessel will skate with and the fact he seems to be a lot happier now than in recent years, analysts and fans are already projecting a massive goal total. Is 50+ goals a realistic forecast?
