Odds are “pretty good” Jagr stays with the Florida Panthers

At age 43, Jaromir Jagr is showing no signs of slowing down. In the final year of his current contract, it’s ridiculous that we’re all discussing where he’ll play next instead of planning his retirement ceremony. A few rumors have popped up regarding the next chapter in Jagr’s career, but the most recent report indicates he’ll be back in Florida in 2015-16.

There have been a few reports suggesting that Jagr may want to play for a Czech team, but that doesn’t appear to be the plan for 2015-16. If Jagr is in fact trying to play professional hockey until he’s 50, he has plenty of time to sign a new deal with the Panthers and still play for a Czech team before hanging it up.

There are plenty of jokes to be made about the fact Jagr, an aging veteran, may elect to keep on playing in a state known for its retirees, but it’s impossible not to pull for whichever team he represents. Jagr is treasure for the sport of hockey and fans will keep on rooting for him regardless of which NHL sweater he pulls on.
