Gordie Howe is once again being honored for his achievements in the world of hockey. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper said today, that they will be naming the Detroit River span between Michigan and Windsor the Gordie Howe International Bridge.

Harper was joined by Michigan Governor Rick Snyder while making the announcement.
“Mr. Hockey, one of the greatest players in the history of the game, is a proud Canadian who led the Detroit Red Wings to four Stanley Cup victories, building extraordinary goodwill between our two countries,” Harper said. “It is my sincere hope that this bridge, which bears his name, will continue this proud legacy by accelerating the flow of people, merchandise and services between our great nations for years to come.”
Howe, 87, played over 1650 NHL games mostly with the Detroit Red Wings, and has been an ambassador for the game since his retirement.
The estimated price tag was for the six-lane bridge was previously reported at over two billion dollars. The bridge is on track to be completed by 2020.
