When pressed if whether Milan Lucic saw himself playing with the Vancouver Canucks when his contract expired at the end of next season, the power forward said it was a dream of his.
“I honestly don’t know what’s going to happen moving on,” Lucic told TSN 1410 Radio’s Bro Jake show in response to a direct question on the topic. “I mean I have one year left on my contract, and there’s a possibility that I can hit the [unrestricted free agent] market. …
“It’s obviously something that’s been a dream of mine since I’ve been a kid, is to play in your hometown and play for the Canucks, but right now the main focus is going down to L.A. and trying to make the most of that.”
That’s not a surprising answer. Why wouldn’t the Vancouver native want to play with the Canucks? He’s a childhood fan so it’s not all that far-fetched. Lucic is going to take some heat for saying this before he’s even played a game with the Kings, but he was asked a question and answered it honestly. He didn’t say he was going to leave the Kings when he hits unrestricted free agency, he just said it was his dream to one day play for the Canucks.
Right now Lucic said his focus is on the Kings, making the playoffs and a Cup run.
“If you look at the roster, we’re still a really deep team that has another chance to make a Cup run,” Lucic said. “So right now I’m more worried about that than anything else.”
While he may play with the Canucks some day, it would be silly to crucify Lucic for making these comments – he’s a Canucks fan, but he’s a Kings player first.
