There have been a ton of trade rumors surrounding Jordan Eberle over the last few months. The forward seems like a likely trading chip for the Edmonton Oilers as they once again try to figure out what it takes to build a winning team. What does Eberle think about all of the trade rumors? Simply, he has no desire to leave Edmonton.
Eberle discussed all of the trade rumors with NHL.com and he detailed the fact he has no interest in being dealt to a new team.
“You know, any time your team’s in the position we are, we have been for the last few years, names come up. That’s the obvious thing, so you’ve got to put that aside. A lot of the times you have to try and use it as a compliment, you know, other teams want you. And that being said, I want to be an Oiler, and I want to play here and I want to turn this thing around.”
Eberle’s dedication to the Oilers is mostly due to the fact he’s playing near his home of Regina. A trade to a new team would mean he wouldn’t be able to enjoy the current proximity he has with family and friends. At 24, Eberle hasn’t felt the pressure to find a new team which might have better odds of winning the Stanley Cup and to date he has avoided almost all of the media scrutiny.
Perhaps fortunately for Eberle, there are several other trade candidates in Edmonton including Taylor Hall, Nail Yakupov and even Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. The Oilers can look to rebuild in a variety of different ways and with so many attractive trade assets, Eberle may end up sticking with the organization.
