John Carlson was a scratch for the Capitals’ game against the Sabres on Monday night, ending his Iron man streak at 412 games.

Carlson was considered a game-time decision after it was announced he was dealing with a lower-body injury. It was believed that Carlson suffered the injury when he got “twisted up” in his team’s game against the Montreal Canadiens. The details of the injury haven’t been formally released.
Carlson’s streak was well short of the NHL record of 964 games set by Doug Jarvis, but a total of 412 consecutive games in the modern game is beyond impressive. Carlson was just 10 games away from besting the franchise record of 422 consecutive appearances set by Bobby Carpenter. His streak began back in 2010 and lasted nearly five years.
Despite Carlson’s run ending, there’s still a big streak running with the Capitals thanks to Karl Alzner. Alzner’s streak extended to 411 games on Monday night.
