Hurricanes hope to be “fairly active” at the trade deadline

The 2014-15 season is over for the Carolina Hurricanes. There are still games left on the schedule, but the Hurricanes have been out of the playoff hunt ever since they failed to pick up a win in the season’s first month. Owning one of the worst records in the NHL, the Hurricanes are on the list of teams who should be sellers at the deadline.

Will the Hurricanes be active in the trade market? That question was asked to GM Ron Francis and he had a rather predictable, yet telling answer.

Francis’ answer was predictable in the fact that every NHL team is looking to improve at the deadline. Whether that actually happens requires timing and a lot of pieces to fall into place.

The revealing portion of Francis’ answer comes in the way he says he hopes to be active. That’s a word Hurricanes fans will want to hear as it signals that the team will be proactive rather than reactive near the deadline. They want to make things happen and that should at least give some optimism to fans who are longing for some moves.

Now it’s time for Francis and the Hurricanes to make their hopes become a reality.
