This was an exciting week of hockey fights around the NHL. We had a ton of solid fights to choose from for this week’s list and it was tricky picking just five. Your opinion may vary, but we think this was one of the best group of fights we’ve seen all season long.
5. Michael Latta (WAS) vs Robert Bortuzzo (PIT) – Feb. 17th
Pretty solid fight for the fifth position, don’t you think? That should give you an idea of what lies ahead. We’re going to give Latta the “W” here as it looks like more of his punches actually caught Bortuzzo in the head while Bortuzzo’s seemed to catch mostly Latta’s helmet.
4. Tanner Glass (NYR) vs Tyson Strachan (BUF) – Feb. 20th
It looked like Glass had his hands full and was in a lot of trouble when this fight started. Things changed in a hurry as a couple of big blows brought Strachan to the ice.
3. Adam McQuaid (BOS) vs Daniel Carcillo (CHI) – Feb. 22
Carcillo was full of energy … and then the punches from McQuaid started finding their mark. It’s amazing how a few big shots can zap all of the energy out of a guy. McQuaid ended this fight with a distinct advantage and a smile on his face.
2. Luke Gazdic (EDM) vs Anthony Peluso (WIN) – Feb. 16th
Two pretty familiar names in our Hockey Fights of the Week column finally square off. We were not disappointed. Though there was a lot of jersey tugging, there were also some brutal punches. Great fight.
1. Matt Calvert (CBJ) vs Christian Thomas (MON) – Feb. 21st
The strategy here was simple – put your head down and start throwing. There wasn’t a clear conclusion to this bout, but that just leaves us rooting for round two.
