Welcome to Hockey Fights of the Week! As the league prepares to take a few days off for All-Star Weekend, we bring you the five best fights from last week. This is an interesting installment as you’ll see Patrick Sharp drop the mitts for the first time since 2008-09 and Anthony Peluso and Nicolas Deslauriers dish out some beatings.
5. Troy Bodie (TOR) vs Kyle Clifford (LA) – Jan. 12th
It’s not how you start a fight – it’s how you finish it. Clifford is slow out of the gate and it looks like Bodie has the upper hand, but momentum shifts in a hurry and its the Kings forward who ends up on top.
4. Shawn Horcoff (DAL) vs Patrick Sharp (CHI) – Jan. 18th
Are you surprised to find Sharp’s name here? We are. Sharp last dropped his gloves in 2008-09, but Horcoff must have really struck a nerve. Despite the fact he hasn’t fought in half a decade, Sharp proves he can still hold his own and wins this scrap.
3. Anthony Peluso (WPG) vs Bryan Bickell (CHI) – Jan. 16th
Peluso is a scary, scary man. Before Bickell even has a chance to respond, Peluso is pummeling him with body shots and blows to the head. Quick right after quick right catch Bickell and this fight is over in a hurry.
2. Tim Sestito (NJ) vs Matt Beleskey (ANA) – Jan. 16th
This fight starts after Beleskey delivers a crunching hit in the corner and Sestito rushes in to defend his teammate. The hit looked pretty clean, so it’s kind of annoying that this led to a scrap. With that being said, this was a pretty awesome fight between the two men. We’re going to call it a draw, but Sestito may have had the better showing.
1. Mathew Dumba (MIN) vs Nicolas Deslauriers (BUF) – Jan. 15th
Fighting may be the only thing the Sabres do well. The club may be in the NHL’s basement, but they’re almost always featured in our Hockey Fights of the Week columns. This time it’s Deslauriers and he takes out his frustrations on Dumba. Once again the officials broke things up a bit too early, but at least they let this one start.
