Fighting is down in the NHL and that’s never been more evident than in this week’s post. In the past we’ve had numerous fights to choose from when compiling our Hockey Fights of the Week list, but this time we barely had enough to create a full column.
Enjoy the five fights from last week. They’re not great, but they’re all we have.
5. Andrew Desjardins (CHI) vs Tyson Strachan (BUF) – April 3rd
This battle doesn’t last too long, but it’s a pretty decent one. Strachan lands a punch which knocks Desjardins’ lid off. Desjardins ends up on top at the end, but we give the win to Strachan.
4. John Moore (ARI) vs Barclay Goodrow (SJ) – April 3rd
This is a strange fight. For starters, how often do you see a fight where one player is in a headlock the entire time? Better yet, a stick is wedged between Moore and Goodrow for the duration of the scrap. Bizarre fight, but a nice win by Goodrow.
3. Tom Wilson (WAS) vs Mark Borowiecki (OTT) – April 4th
Borowiecki’s strategy of pushing Wilson around the ice wasn’t very effective. Wilson throws the majority of punches here and he wins the fight as a result.
2. Brandon Bollig (CGY) vs Robert Bortuzzo (STL) – April 2nd
Bortuzzo was brought in to add some muscle to the Blues’ defense and that’s exactly what he did after Bollig dished out a dirty hit on Barret Jackman. Bollig may have a narrow edge, but this fight is pretty even.
1. J.T. Brown (TB) vs Sam Carrick (TOR) – Mar. 31st
The final fight this week is also the most lopsided. Carrick connects with almost every punch he throws and this bout wraps up with Brown in a headlock as Carrick continues to throw punches. Brutal.
