After yet another disappointing year in 2014-15, Dany Heatley might be headed for the KHL in 2015-16. The Hockey News outlines a report from Russia which suggests at least two KHL squads have expressed an interest in Heatley and that the 34-year-old may be looking for a new challenge after a dismal recent run in the NHL and AHL.
The report states that both CSKA Moscow and SKA St. Petersburg have contacted Heatley about a potential contract to bring the forward to the KHL. There’s no indication over whether either team is planning to extend a formal offer.
Heatley was tabbed as a potential bounce-back player as he joined the Anaheim Ducks prior to 2014-15, but that experiment failed to pan out as Heatley skated in just six games before being demoted to the AHL. The Ducks eventually traded Heatley from their AHL side, the Norfolk Admirals, to the San Antonio Rampage, the affiliate for the Florida Panthers.
Heatley’s AHL numbers were just as disappointing as his NHL numbers, compiling just 20 points in 43 games. Based on his inability to capture his former offensive skill at either level in North America, a move to the KHL would make a lot of sense.
