Tampa Bay’s Alex Killorn delivered a nasty hit on Toronto’s Paul Ranger on Wednesday night. As Ranger made a quick turn near the boards, Killorn drove through him, sending his head awkwardly into the glass. Ranger was down on the ice for several minutes before being stretchered off.
On first review the hit looks absolutely vicious, but upon additional viewings you’ll see that Ranger turned at the last second and was at least partially responsible for his awkward tumble. By no means does this excuse Killorn’s hit which will certainly garner some NHL discipline, but it at least should reduce the likely suspension by a few games.
