Steve Mason says “things are slipping away” for Flyers

After the Philadelphia Flyers fell to the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday, the team’s record fell to 8-10-3 on the year. The Flyers have been particularly bad on the road, earning just five points in 13 games. Struggling to find their footing in the Metropolitan Division, the Flyers are aware that they’re starting to let the year slip away.

Steve Mason summed things up, as seen on CSN Philly:

“It’s pretty easy to see things slipping away. Points are up for grabs but other teams are grabbing them and you’re not and you’re falling behind.”

Kind of odd Mason used “you’re” to describe the Flyers instead of “we” considering he’s equally as responsible for the team’s position in the standings.

Coach Craig Berube also had a statement following another loss:

“We need to fight through adversity better. We need to stick with the game plan a little bit more. We stopped doing the little things.

We had some guys that aren’t competing and it results in goals against. It can’t happen. You need everybody on your team competing at the highest level all the time in this league; otherwise you will not win.”

In other words, it takes a team effort to lose as the Flyers have through the season’s first half. Following their loss to Detroit, the players held a players-only meeting. The details of the meeting weren’t revealed, but in summary they said it covered what they need to do to improve the rest of the way.
