Report: Sharp drop in interest for Canucks tickets

How are hockey fans in Vancouver responding to the team’s current rebuilding effort? Not positively, according to a report seen on News 1130. In an interview with a major ticket broker from Vancouver Ticket, interest in Canucks tickets has taken a sharp drop. The specific broker cites that drop being as steep as 40%.

Here’s the quote from the broker:

“Right now there is no demand for Vancouver Canucks tickets.

If they want to drop prices, they can. But if they don’t feel they have to and the demand is there — that’s their call. But as far as what I know — and I’m on the front lines when it comes to dealing with Vancouver Canucks tickets — the demand is definitely lower and if they really want to get an increase in fans, even the average fan that wants to go to the odd game, they’re going to have to lower prices.”

While we shouldn’t paint with too broad of a brush and we shouldn’t read too far into one broker’s report, this is still sounds pretty troubling. The secondary ticket market is usually a pretty fair way to gauge interest in a team. Statistics such as average ticket price on the secondary market can go a long way in determining how well a team is doing along with whether or not the organization is asking for too high of a price.

The Canucks aren’t going through the same rebuild as we’re seeing in other cities, but they are coming off of an extremely disappointing season that led to some big changes within the organization. It’ll be interesting to see how those moves pan out (Is Ryan Miller the answer?), but for now it appears that the Canucks will have to prove themselves out on the ice if they expect fans to pay the price they are asking.
