Johnny Boychuk’s trade from the Boston Bruins to the New York Islanders was a pretty big surprise. Trade rumors were swirling around Boychuk for quite some time, but it’s safe to say that very few people correctly guessed that the Islanders would be his new team. How did Boychuk feel about the move? Apparently he was pretty upset.
Not an easy meeting with Boychuk. Chiarelli: "he was upset, I was upset, I'm still upset" ^CS

It’s not clear if Boychuk was simply upset he was leaving Boston or if it had more to do with his new team, but his reaction is understandable. In fact, it matches the reaction had by Bruins fans on social media following the trade. Though the deal was one which makes sense from a salary cap perspective, it’s tough to watch a Cup contender make a trade which won’t pay immediate dividends.

There’s a lot of truth to the above statement, but a lot of fans are going to have a hard time accepting it. Boychuk is a talented defenseman and now he shifts over to the Islanders, a squad which is suddenly a lot better following this trade and their acquisition of Nick Leddy.
Boychuk may have been upset leaving Boston, but he’s probably going to enjoy the Islanders a little bit more following their trade for Leddy. Still, it’s never easy to go from a Cup contender to an organization clawing to be a playoff threat.
