Are you ready for another installment of Hockey Fights of the Week? Of course you are. This week’s collection features three fairly even scraps and two lopsided bouts. Plenty of familiar names litter the rankings this week and we’ll also touch on our vote for the most underrated fighter in the NHL.
5. Wayne Simmonds (PHI) vs Matt Martin (NYI) – Nov. 24th
Only a handful of punches actually landed between Martin and Simmonds, but that shouldn’t detract from this outstanding fight. We give Martin the edge in this one simply because the bulk of Simmonds punches are those tiny jabs a player uses while holding on to the opponent’s sweater.
4. Anthony Peluso (WIN) vs Mike Weber (BUF) – Nov. 26th
What a display from Peluso. Weber resorts to trying to grab Peluso’s face as he desperately tries to avoid further punishment. This was Peluso’s first fight in 2014-15 and it was extremely impressive.
3. Eric Gryba (OTT) vs Ryan Reaves (STL) – Nov. 25th
As strange as it sounds, there’s a lot of bad blood between the Senators and Blues. Tempers boiled over on several occasions after the two teams battled twice in a week and one of those incidents involved Gryba and Reaves. Once again, Reaves makes things look easy, proving why he’s our choice for the most underrated (and perhaps most frightening) fighter in the NHL.
2. Steve Pinizzotto (EDM) vs Steve Ott (STL) – Nov. 28th
Ott isn’t completely overwhelmed in this battle with Pinizzotto, but he might benefit from watching and learning from Reaves. You could make the case this was a draw, but we’re going to give the win to the Oilers. Considering how few they’ve had this year, it’s the least we could do.
1. Brandon Prust (MON) vs Chris Stewart (BUF) – Nov. 28th
This fight was awesome. There’s not much more which needs to be said other than the fact both Prust and Stewart deserve our applause for a great fight.
