Our last installment of Hockey Fights of the Week was arguably the best of the 2014-15 season. How did the league’s warriors follow up on that outstanding collection of fights? There were fewer fights around the league, but the ones we did see were gems.
5. Dale Weise (MON) vs Gregory Campbell (BOS) – Nov. 22nd
This fight could have been ranked considerably higher due to the fact it has a few of our favorite things: gloves shooting across the ice, hand slapping as both men try to find a grip and an insane amount of spinning.
4. Paul Gaustad (NSH) vs David Clarkson (TOR) – Nov. 18th
This is more of a wrestling match than an actual fight. Gaustad and Clarkson appear to be intent on hugging this one out while throwing the occasional punch.
3. Derek Dorsett (VAN) vs Steve Pinizzotto (EDM) – Nov. 19th
This is a pretty even fight, but we give the victory to Dorsett for his takedown of Pinizzotto as the fight concludes. Pretty wicked move.
2. Steve Downie (PIT) vs Travis Hamonic (NYI) – Nov. 22nd
Downie used to be a regular name in this column, but the majority of his recent fights have fallen into the “average” category. Here he bests Hamonic by throwing punches with both hands and by adjusting the angle of his delivery.
1. Brandon Prust (MON) vs Kevin Klein (NYR) – Nov. 23rd
Klein wasn’t too happy watching Prust bump into Henrik Lundqvist. In fact, he was so unhappy that he rushed over to drop the mitts and almost immediately regretted the decision. Prust has a much more colorful fight resume and he shows off his experience in a lopsided battle.
